Job hazards

You know the day might not be the best when it starts out by being stuck behind a slow moving car with a dog perched in the back window heartily licking himself. Somehow things went downhill from there.
Before noon I had managed to be attacked by two separate dogs and stepped in a major stinky dog mine. Lovely.
But, to maintain perspective (I think that might be my word for the year next year) I visited a seventy year old woman who was diagnosed with lung cancer metastasized to liver, lymph nodes, and lumbar and thoracic spine. She went to the doctor for back pain without a clue. Things like that make just about anything my day brings not so bad, you know?

Mess of the Day

I've been doing photo of the day for about a year and a half now. Don't always manage to get every day, but I'm close. Yesterday Eva inspired me to begin mess of the day. Yes, messes are that frequent around here. She managed a total of 3 massive messes yesterday, requiring two baths. Her third was vomit in the bed and high pile carpeting of her bedroom, so I won't post pictures of that (you're welcome) but here is number 1:
The result of unattended butter and farm set. I will give Donnie credit for clean-up, as Nat and I were practicing piano. When my patients ask me how I handle 4 children, I answer: I wouldn't have 4 children if my husband wasn't as good as he is. Thanks, honey. I'll save the second for tomorrow's post. Not quite as creative as the first, but a lot more sticky. :)

A healthy dose of perspective

Long time no post. Lots of life, lots of blessings.
Today I visited a patient who lives in the back of a garage furnished with a couch and table, three kitchen chairs and a TV sitting atop a 1ft by 2ft cabinet to hold his clothes. He slept on the broken down couch with his single blanket, walked a bare concrete floor, and showered in an unkept bathroom with 1 towel. No family or friends to speak of. Basically alone.
This evening I attended a seminar about how to manage money and was fed a good meal.
And it dawns on me...how good do I have it that I can actually choose where to spend money, while others don't even have money to spend. You see it in the pictures from other countries, but here? Literally 5 minutes from my house? I pass that house every day, wrote it off as a garage. Thank you Lord for my incredible blessings, please do not allow me to lose sight of perspective.
